Protect your capital by sizing positions scientifically. Determine exact unit purchases based on your account risk tolerance and distance to structural invalidation.
Crypto Position Size & Risk Calculator
Calculate mathematical position sizing based on fixed capital risk, distance to stop-loss, and round-trip fee slippage.
Units = (Balance × Risk%) ÷ ( |Entry - StopLoss| + RoundTripFees )Mathematical Principles Behind Position Sizing
The primary failure mode of retail cryptocurrency traders is arbitrary position sizing—risking varying percentages of equity per trade based on emotional conviction. Professional quantitative risk management relies on Fixed Fractional Capital Allocation:
Loss Per Unit = | Entry Price − Stop Loss Price | + Round-Trip Fees
Position Units = Dollar Risk ÷ Loss Per Unit
Notional Value = Position Units × Entry Price
Why Leverage Does Not Increase Risk When Sized Properly
A common misconception is that leverage inherently increases risk. In quantitative portfolio management, position size (units) dictates dollar risk, whereas leverage merely determines the initial collateral (margin) held by the exchange. If your stop-loss is placed at 2% adverse excursion and your unit size is calculated to lose exactly $100 upon trigger, you will lose $100 whether using 1x spot or 3x isolated leverage (excluding differences in borrow fees and liquidation distance).
